Betto Arcos is radio journalist, DJ, lecturer and music promoter based in Los Angeles. Since 2008, he has been a regular contributor to National Public Radio, PRI-BBC’s The World and KPCC’s The Frame and Take Two, writing and producing stories about musicians and music from around the globe. Arcos produces and hosts the podcast The Cosmic Barrio. From 1997-2015, he produced and hosted the daily music program Global Village on Pacifica Radio’s 90.7 FM-KPFK in Los Angeles. In addition to his work in public radio, Arcos teaches arts and culture, and broadcast journalism at Loyola Marymount University. He has developed a musical component for two different courses at Harvard University’s Divinity School, “Religion in the Latin American Imagination” (2002, 2011, 2015) and “Latinos Remaking America” (2014, 2016). For the past three years, Arcos has been a guest speaker at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute, lecturing on Latin American music to mid-level career diplomats. In 1993 he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism with honors from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
